War in Ukraine: Occupied Cities of Ukraine in 2022

With the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, our state lost control and authority over some of its territories. On these territories are cities and villages that are temporarily under occupation and subordinated to the Russian authorities. Until 24 February 2022, such territories were the cities and villages of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. There, their own independent states were recognized and the so-called LDNR and DNR were created.

With the start of the invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, cities and villages of Ukraine, which border Belarus and Russia, as well as the water area of the Azov Sea, were seized and occupied. In the first days, the enemy captured cities from Kherson to Mariupol, the north of Kyiv Oblast (the cities captured by Russia - Bucha, Irpin, Novi Petrivtsi, Brovarskyi district, Hostomel) of Sumy Oblast, Chernihiv Oblast, part of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Kharkiv Oblast, as well as Luhansk and Donetsk.

The occupiers were unable to take the cities of Kharkiv and Chernihiv, so they massively shelled and destroyed the cities’ infrastructure with heavy artillery and from the air. The bombed cities and villages of these oblasts were completely destroyed. Bridges and a dam in Kharkiv Oblast were blown up and bombed. This caused the flooding of several villages. But by October 2022, thanks to our defenders, these oblasts were fully liberated. People are gradually returning. Unfortunately, many homes have been destroyed. But Ukrainians are a strong nation and, despite the continued martial law in Ukraine, are gradually restoring their homes. Returning to work, restoring small businesses.

On the Kyiv axis, Hostomel, Bucha and Irpin were devastated and mined. This young and developed cities of Ukraine, which were captured from the first days of the war. The occupiers destroyed and massively looted all property. Thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Kyiv Oblast was liberated in early April 2022. Ukraine will never forget the horrors left behind by the Russians. Mass graves of people were discovered and documented on the territory of these cities. Most of them were killed while evacuating from the bombed cities and villages. By October 2022, most residents of these cities had returned home. Schools and kindergartens, apartment buildings were repaired.

By mid-October 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine had achieved significant success on the Kherson axis. And we believe in the soonest possible restoration of the territorial integrity of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts.

Also on the Donetsk and Luhansk axes, the guys are recapturing and liberating the occupied territories village by village, city by city.

Every day Russia terrorizes Ukraine with missile strikes on residential areas of large and small cities of Ukraine. Shelling is carried out both from the occupied territories of Ukraine and from the seas. Many people have been killed and injured by the shelling. Many people are on the occupied territories.

The nation of Ukraine is strong and invincible. So everything will be Ukraine!
