Holy Intercession Cathedral

Have you ever been to a cathedral built on the site of an old cemetery? If not, then in Khmelnytskyi you have the chance to visit Holy Intercession Cathedral, which rises on Volodymyrska Street. At first, it was a small church built in 1824, and over the years it fell into such neglect that the authorities decided to build a new cathedral in its place. Construction began in the late 80s of the 20th century. Only in 1992 were the city’s residents able to take part in its solemn consecration and opening.

KhOKhM — Khmelnytskyi Regional Art Museum

Do you appreciate contemporary art? Haven’t been on quest tours? Then it is worth visiting one of the city’s well-known museums — Khmelnytskyi Regional Art Museum.

A few years ago, even some city residents did not know the museum existed, but today it is one of the best-known and most popular places, where fans of contemporary art and visitors to the city gladly go for exhibitions. It often hosts tours, various contests, presentations, creative evenings and master classes.

Craftsmen’s Synagogue

You can learn a little more about Jewish culture thanks to the Craftsmen's Synagogue. It is located in Pekarskyi Lane. Its name is no accident, because it was here that bakers of Jewish nationality lived in the 1890s. Only in the 90s of the XX century did the small building become a religious and cultural center, where a photo exhibition is now on display that highlights facts about the religious life of Jews.

Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God

While walking through the city, it is worth getting acquainted with the old building executed in the classical style — the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God. In the 70s of the 17th century, the first wooden church, built by parishioners, still stood here. However, a major fire in 1822 destroyed the building completely, which became the reason for building a new church. Only in 1837 was the cathedral consecrated and opened to parishioners.

It is known that the cathedral once kept a great deal of church literature, among it the oldest edition of the Hours. The famous miraculous icon of the Mother of God, renowned for its healing properties, also stood here. Today, the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God is one of the valuable architectural monuments and a well-known place among tourists.

Khmelnytskyi registry office

The history of buildings in Khmelnytskyi never fails to impress. A vivid example is the Khmelnytskyi registry office, which two centuries ago was the mansion of a doctor from Proskuriv. During World War I, the building became the headquarters of the 8th Army of the Southwestern Front, and later the property of the Red Cossacks. In the 70s of the 19th century, it housed the city children’s hospital, and today it is a palace for solemn occasions.

The building is executed in a restrained Baroque style. Its facades are decorated with stucco in the form of corner vases on attics, segmental pediments, massive cornices, vegetal ornament and more. Thanks to constant restorations and repair work, the building has retained its well-kept appearance to this day.

Finding the registry office in Khmelnytskyi is very easy, because only past this building stretches an alley of wrought-iron benches that impress with their variety and unconventional look.

Chekman Culture Park

Chekman Culture Park — one of the most romantic places in the city. It is located on the picturesque bank of the Buh, from which incredible panoramas of the city open up. Not far from the park there is Love Island, where construction of a three-story museum complex is planned in the near future.

The park itself is gradually changing. Alleys are being laid out here, there are many attractions, children’s playgrounds are being restored — everything is being done so that every guest’s leisure is as productive and positive as possible.
