Waterfalls of Ukraine Worth Visiting

Traveling through the Carpathians, it is impossible not to be captivated by the beauty of the local landscapes and to feel the scale of the forests covering the mountains. Especially mesmerizing and eye-catching are the swift streams of water in Ukraine's mountain waterfalls, which fall from a height like a water curtain, or wrap around the stone ledges of gorges. This mesmerizing sight is worth seeing in early April and through June, before the dry, hot days set in and mountain rivers start to run low.

Zhenetskyi Huk

One of the most beautiful waterfalls of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast — Zhenetskyi Huk. It got this name for the loud roar created by its waters as they fall from a height. Huk waterfall is located 9 km from Tatariw Station and 5 km from Mykulychyn Station. It can be reached only by off-road vehicle, or on foot by crossing kilometers of rough track. Approximate time on the rough road — 40-60 min.

Less hardy tourists can use the services of local car shuttles, which will quickly take them by off-road vehicle to the natural landmark of the Carpathian National Park.

Yalynskyi Waterfall

The picturesque Yalynskyi Waterfall in Rakhiv District, in Zakarpattia, is one of the highest single-cascade waterfalls in Western Ukraine. Its height reaches 26 m. It is located in the Rakhiv Mountains, amid wild nature. There is no developed infrastructure nearby, so on the way to this natural beauty it is worth taking comfortable, non-slip footwear.

Yalynskyi Waterfall can be seen at its best in spring, when the waters of the Yalyn stream are at their fullest.

Shypit

The 14-meter Shypit Waterfall is located on the northern slopes of Polonyna Borzhava. It can be reached from the village of Pylypets (6 km) or from Volovets railway station (10 km). This geological wonder was formed in the deep gorge of the Pylypets River.

Shypit Waterfall is a very popular place among tourists, because festivals are held nearby in summer, and in winter tourists come here for the ski resorts of Podobovets and Pylypets. In addition, nearby the waterfall stands Mount Velykyi Verkh. According to legend, the lovers Ivan and Marichka lived near it. They often met in secret from their relatives at the foot of the mountain, but when their secret was uncovered, the relatives became so angry that a severe thunderclap sounded and a heavy downpour passed. The fast current of water swept the lovers off the cliff. Now only the sound of Shypit Waterfall recalls the whisper of the loving couple.

Prutskyi Waterfall

In the south of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast is one of the most beautiful waterfalls — the six-cascade Prutskyi (Hoverlianskyi) Waterfall. The height of this mountain landmark is 80 m, and the height of the highest cascade is about 12 m. This is one of the most popular waterfalls, often included in the list of must-see tourist spots on the ascent or descent from Hoverla. It is precisely because of Hoverla that the waterfall is often called Hoverlianskyi, and Prutskyi — because it is fed by the waters of the Prut River. The distance from the Zarosliak base to Prutskyi Waterfall is 2,3 km.

Dzembronia Waterfalls

The Dzembronia Waterfalls (Smotrych Waterfalls) are a cascade of waterfalls located not far from the summit of Smotrets, in the southeastern part of Chornohora. The waterfall reaches a height of 100 m, and its highest cascade is 10 m. If your excursion includes a climb to Mount Pip Ivan, it is worth including the Dzembronia Waterfalls in the route, as they will be practically on the way to the mountain summit.

Manyavskyi Waterfall

One of the highest and most popular waterfalls in Ukraine is Manyavskyi Waterfall, located on the Manyavka River, southwest of the village of Manyava. This hydrological landmark is set among the steep mountains of the Gorgany massif.

The waterfall is 20 m high. Nearby is the Manyavskyi Skyt monastery — a place of strong energy, which is also worth visiting for those who want to recharge with the positive energy of nature.

Kudrynets Waterfall

A small waterfall, only 5 m high, yet remarkably beautiful — Kudrynets Waterfall, located southeast of the village of Zelena. The waterfall's uniqueness lies in its numerous small cascades, which seem to form steps down which the water rushes, creating a water curtain about 3,5 m wide.

Krapelkovyi Waterfall

One of the smallest waterfalls, which can be viewed from all sides, is Krapelkovyi Waterfall, located in the Bukhativets area. The water flow is formed by a small channel of the Bukhativets River, which falls from the rocky massif in a continuous curtain.

It is at its fullest in autumn, but at the end of summer its flow turns into a barely noticeable trickle of drops. That is what gave this natural phenomenon its name.

You can reach the waterfall on foot, by bicycle, or by car with high ground clearance.

Voievodin Waterfall

In the Sokoli Skeli State Reserve, on the southern slopes of the Polonyna Runa mountain massif, is Voievodin Waterfall.

According to one version, Voievodin Waterfall was formed as a result of an earthquake, which caused a crack in the rock through which the waterfall now flows. Its source begins on Polonyna Rivna, which is located at an altitude of 1497 m.

Trufanets Waterfall

Not far from the urban-type settlement of Yasinia, in Zakarpattia Oblast, the Trufanets Waterfall flows. Its name comes from the Trufanets River, from the throat section of which the waterfall begins. At its base there is an observation deck, from which one can admire the beauty of the water streams cascading down. The total height of the Trufanets Waterfall is 36 m.
