Golden Autumn in the Carpathians. Where to go, what to see and where to relax

Most people think that a holiday in the Carpathians means only winter and active recreation. But anyone who has been to the Carpathians in autumn at least once has fallen in love with this area forever. The abundance and colorfulness of nature's colors pleases the eye and wins you over at first sight. Such a variety of shades impresses everyone who is on holiday. This is the best kind of rest for those who want to be alone with nature, rest spiritually, and recharge.

But the question arises: what should you visit during your holiday?

The first thing every tourist should do in autumn is walk through the mountain forests and enjoy the enchanting colors of nature. During walks at this time, it is possible to gather many forest berries and porcini mushrooms. For mushroom enthusiasts, September is the main month for mushroom picking. At this time, berries also ripen, such as wild raspberry, blackberry, wild strawberry, and rosehip. But you need to know exactly what it looks like, because there are many similar berries that can cause poisoning. The mushroom season here lasts until the first frosts. They are often found near mountain trails. There are many of them here. So even an inexperienced beginner will return with a “quiet catch”.

In general, it does not matter which region you choose for a holiday in the Carpathians in autumn. Everyone will find entertainment for themselves. One of the most popular activities is fishing. Private households offer trout fishing for a small fee. Even a child can handle such an important task. It will bring a lot of emotions and a sea of pleasure. And if desired, it can also be cooked over a fire.

Dovbush Trail

As for a more active holiday, we suggest taking backpacks and conquering mountain peaks. One of the easier routes that even children can manage is “Dovbush Trail” to Mount Makovytsia. Why does this route bear this name? Long ago, it is said, rebels led by their leader O. Dovbush hid in these paths. And that is how people came to call it. Mount Makovytsia is part of the Gorgany mountain massif and rises to 984 meters above sea level. From its summit, picturesque views open up. The mountain massif itself has very diverse fauna. On the way up the mountain, you may meet a roe deer, wild boar, or badger. There are several routes to the mountain. But if you walk specifically along the Dovbush paths, it is better to choose the route that starts between Yaremche and Mykulychyn. The trail begins in the deepest forest and smoothly leads upward to the rocks. Several million years ago, there was a sea here, on the bottom of which rocks formed up to about 80 meters high. But over time the sea receded and the rocks remained on the mountain massif. Now their height above sea level reaches about 650 meters. This is a popular place for tourists and climbers.

Hutsul swings

One of the tourists' favorite autumn activities in the Carpathians is the Hutsul swings. Today there are about 10 popular places, but one of the most visited is the Hutsul swing in the village of Mykulychyn. It is located on the meadow in the village, and you can find it on Google Maps. The climb there is rather steep, and it is not easy to get up by car. But that is not a problem, because while walking up the rocky path, you will immerse yourself in the beauty of mountain nature and feel the spirit of the Carpathians. On the meadow there are cottages of local residents. Preserved to this day in the color of ancient times. Swinging, there is an amazing view of the meadow and the mountain massif of the Carpathians.

Railway carriage

Going down from the Hutsul swing and crossing the bridge, you can get to the mini museum of the railway carriage. The museum consists of a single railway car, and it is dedicated to the narrow-gauge railway that was built back in “Austrian” times and transported people and timber from the mountainous part to the main road. But after the major flood in 1968, the road was washed out. And one carriage from those times remained, open to visitors. Perhaps later they will turn it into a museum dedicated to this history.

In autumn, the Carpathians open up many opportunities for active recreation. The heat is already easing. And on cool autumn days you can conquer more and more new peaks and places. And there are so many of them here.
